Courtesy of the Anna Maria College sports information department, here’s this afternoon’s release from the men’s lacrosse game:

Paxton, Mass. – Senior Jason Baker (Billerica, Mass.) poured in a game high six points (5 goals, 1 assist) but it wasn’t enough for the AMCATS as they dropped a highly contested men’s lacrosse match 15-12 to visiting Mount Ida College in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon at AMCAT field.

The AMCATS fall to 5-8 overall and 2-5 in conference action while Mount Ida moves to 7-7 (6-1 GNAC) on the season.

Joining Baker on the stat sheet was teammate Lucas Stralka (East Greenwich, RI) who added three goals and an assist for AMC and seniors Chris Summers (Long Valley, NJ) and Rod Henriques (Saugus, Mass.) who each tallied a goal and an assist. Sophomore Nathan Batallas (Baldwinville, Mass.) had a strong game on defense notching 6 ground balls on the day.

Mount Ida was paced by JT Hoyt’s (Westfield, Mass) five tallies, while sophomore Michael Trocchi (Danvers, Mass.) dished out five assists on the day. Freshman attack Michael Markevich (Westminster, Mass.) contributed a hat trick and junior Zach Rosen (East Greenwich, RI) had two goals and three assists in the win.

Mount Ida’s Phil Pichel scored with five seconds remaining in the first period to give the Mustangs a 3-2 advantage after one. Batallas and Stralka pushed across goals for AMC in the first fifteen.

Rosen and Hoyt would open up the scoring in the second frame for Ida, giving the Mustangs a 5-2 advantage, however AMCAT Jason Baker would notch a natural hat trick around a Markevitch goal to cut the deficit to 6-5. The Mustangs would poke in two late goals to maintain an 8-5 lead at the intermission.

The Mustangs would notch four unanswered goals in the first half of the third quarter to build a 12-6 lead. AMC’ s Stralka would fine freshman Scott Henry in the slot and then tip the twine himself to get the AMCATS within five at 12-7.

Trailing 13-7, Jason Baker would tally a pair of unassisted goals for the AMCATS to cut the lead to 13-9 with 8:34 to play. The team would trade a pair of goals and Chris Summers would score late for AMC for the 15-12 final.

Anna Maria returns to action on Tuesday night when they host Becker College in a GNAC match-up starting at 7:00pm. It will be senior night for Anna Maria.
